1: to have the higher or better position in the situation. to be in the lead or winning.

  * e.g.,  ... ex. Dave has the upper hand in the card game because he is winning.

1: Definition: To have more power than someone else, so that you are able to control a situation.

  * e.g.,  ... The company gained the upper hand in the business by buying its competitors. After hours of fierce negotiation, the President gained the upper hand.
